How does Glucozid MR 60mg Tablet work?

The pancreas has beta cells that are responsible for the production of insulin. Gliclazide in Glucozid MR 60mg Tablet increases those beta cells, thus producing more insulin, hence helping in lowering the blood sugar.

Side Effects of Glucozid MR 60mg Tablet

Hypoglycemia may arise alongside conditions like liver or kidney issues, starvation, and alcohol use. Side effects include headaches, gastrointestinal disturbances, nausea, dizziness, and skin reactions like rash, itching, and redness.

• Take it shortly before or with the first main meal of the day (usually breakfast). Avoid skipping meals.

Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration of Glucozid MR 60mg Tablet

For adult oral treatment of Type 2 diabetes:

• Begin with 40-80 mg daily, gradually increasing to 320 mg if needed.
• If doses exceed 160 mg daily, split into two equal doses.
• Modified-release tablets: Start with 30 mg once daily, increase by 30 mg up to 120 mg daily. Minimum 1-month interval between doses. Non-responders may get a dose increase after 2 weeks.
• Take Glucozid MR 60mg Tablet before meals or as directed. Swallow with water, no crushing or chewing.
• Your doctor considers age, weight, and condition to determine the correct dose and duration.
• Follow the doctor's advice for optimal blood sugar control.

Interaction

Certain medications can affect Glucozid MR 60mg Tablet's effectiveness, or Glucozid MR 60mg Tablet itself may impact the potency of other drugs taken concurrently. Inform the doctor about all medications, supplements, or herbals the child uses or plans to use to prevent potential interactions. Notify the doctor of any planned surgery or vaccinations.

Inform the doctor if the child is taking antibiotics, blood thinners, oral contraceptives, or medications for heart issues, asthma, mental health conditions, high blood pressure, infections, gout, or stomach ulcers.

Avoid combining Glucozid MR 60mg Tablet with Miconazole (for infections) as it may induce low blood sugar and even coma. Also, concurrent usage with Phenylbutazone is discouraged.

Contraindications

• Gliclazide should not be used in the following conditions: Juvenile-onset (type-1) diabetes Diabetes with Ketosis
• Diabetic individuals having surgery, recovering from a serious accident, or in the midst of an infection
• Patients who are hypersensitive to the sulfonylurea medication class
• Pregnant ladies and mothers who are breast-feeding
• Hepatic insufficiency is a condition in which the liver is unable to function properly.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnant women should avoid taking gliclazide. It should not be used by a mother who is breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings
